MINEX®-H – Hysteresis coupling
Wear-free overload protection as an alternative to classic safety couplings
General information
The MINEX®-H hysteresis coupling is a wear-free overload protection and an alternative to classic safety couplings, and can be employed as a coupling or a brake.
The torque transmission from the drive to the output element takes place contactlessly via magnetic forces. Upon reaching the max. torque, the hysteresis coupling enters slip operation, thereby ensuring wear-free torque limitation.

Structure and function
In the MINEX® hysteresis coupling, torque transmission from the drive to the output element takes place contactlessly via magnetic forces.
Normal operation:
The torque transmission from the drive to the output element takes place contactlessly via magnetic forces. The speed is transferred synchronously as long as the operating torque remains below the design torque (slip torque).
Overload operation:
As long as the operating torque remains below the design torque (slip torque), the speed is transferred synchronously. As soon as the operating torque exceeds the design torque, the coupling slips and a relative speed is established between the drive and output ends. When this happens, the polarity of the hysteresis material is constantly reversed and it heats up. The holding torque at overload remains almost constant, but can increase slightly with increasing relative speed and the associated eddy current effects.
