Type DSS/SG 1 to 750 Nm

Backlash free torque limiters are a design based on ball engagement and torque transmission based on sockets in an inner ring and output disc. This gives operation that is totally without backlash suiting precision machinery, servo and reversing drives. In most cases a backlash free locking bush connection to the shaft is also chosen instead of a keyway. There are two basic types, both with the option of stainless-steel construction.

The Type P has positive springs where the disc springs operate in a conventional manner. These models have a wide adjustable range and give very fast response. After overload there is a low residual torque. Axial movement can be sensed to give a signal that stops the drive.

Type N has negative springs where increased compression of the disc springs results in a reduction of force. This give high sensitivity and an instantaneous release of the drive torque, faster than all other types of limiter. After overload there is zero residual torque and a manual operation is required to reset the limiter. Torque adjustment is the reverse of models with positive spring rates - reducing spring compression increases torque.

DSS/SG torque limiters are economical due to their simple design. Variants include long hubs, keyless shaft connections, torsionally soft and torsionally rigid in-line couplings.
