Torque limiters prevent machine damage and costly downtime in cases where an accidental overload occurs. Torque limiting restricts the maximum load from the drive and can act as a clutch to disconnect the drive. In many cases it is useful to have a switch signal to initiate an alarm and safely stop the drive. Different models give different action on overload and suit varied mounting configurations.

FRICTION TYPE TORQUE LIMITER

Simple and inexpensive torque limiting that works by springs pressing friction material onto a plate wheel. The slipping torques are steplessly adjustable and they continue to deliver the set torque during and after an overload. At low speeds they can be used as slip clutches. Torque range 1 to 23,000 Nm.

LOW COST BALL TORQUE LIMITER

Low cost ball type torque limiter with plate wheel. EDF models synchronise input and output, are maintenance free, and allow an electrical signal of overload. Torque range 7.5 to 1,450 Nm.

ROLLER TORQUE LIMITERS

Roller type torque limiters achieve higher torques and synchronise input to output with single or multiple positions. Axial movement on overload allows limit switch detection. Comprehensive mounting options are available. Torque range 2.5 to 12,000 Nm.

BACKLASH FREE TORQUE LIMITERS

Available in ball designs, these precision torque limiters can connect to the shaft with locking bushes achieving a total absence of backlash. Very high sensitivity is available in negative spring versions. Now available in stainless steel for food and arduous environments.

Torque range 1 to 750 Nm.

TORQUE LIMITERS WITH FREE RELEASE

Suiting high speeds and drive trains with high inertias, these torque limiters are very fast acting and give a free release with no residual torque. They are also backlash free.

Torque range 10 to 1,200 Nm.

TORQUE LIMITERS FOR HIGH POWERS & TORQUES

With capacity for high torques and free release on overload without residual torque, these DSM torque limiters suit motor to gearbox connection on high power plants. The modular design can be easily adapted. Torque range 200 to 9,000 Nm.

B5 MOUNTED TORQUE LIMITERS

Sensitive ball-type torque limiters designed for B5 mounting between motor and gearbox where they take advantage of the gear ratio to require lower torque and smaller size. Torque range 3 to 720 Nm.

PNEUMATIC TORQUE LIMITERS

Pneumatic models allow remote adjustment of the release torque and multi-level torque limiting. Friction models can act as slipping clutches or tensioning devices. Roller models synchronise input to output and can fully disengage the drive. Torque range 3 to 30,000 Nm.

DSA AXIAL FORCE LIMITERS

Axial force torque limiters can be used to protect from linear overloads, for example on gearbox torque arms. They work in both tension and compression and can be supplied in customised assemblies. Force range 30 to 7,000 N.
